Spot on. I'm Dispensational so Erickson, Grudem and Ryrie are up my alley (I'm admitting to bias). Calvin is a bit dusty for my time constraints.

Erickson's Systematic Theology is very easy read (not as simply put as Grudem but succinct enough to make it onto my shelf).

I get you point re Keller.

Thanks for the response.

John Frame, John Calvin, and Thomas Watson would be my favorite theologians. Believe it or not, Frame is even more brief than Grudem.

I've barely read any of Erickson's stuff. What of his works do you recommend?

Tim Keller is definitely a brother but brothers aren't above reproof. He is incredibly weak on all things related to sexuality (e.g. homosexuality, abortion, masculinity, feminism, etc).

My point wasn't to write Keller off as a heretic like Bell. I have benefited greatly from him. However, we mustn't let Christian celebrity status cloud our ability or, more precisely, willingness to discern.

Schaeffer occupies a shelf as good as any other. I prefer the simplicity of Ryrie, brevity of Grudem or balance of Erickson but each to their own.

mmm, I also thought Keller was one of the good guys. Read MOM at the beginning of the year and thought it a good introduction to Mercy Ministries?

You wrote: "This means we might have to take issue with some or even most of the popular theologians and pastors such as Rob Bell, Tim Keller, and N.T. Wright."

May you please expand on this? There is plenty of evidence for why Bell and Wright would have received opposition from Schaeffer, but I'd like to know what issue you see with Keller that would cause you to add him to that list.

I agree, and I've noticed some very questionable teachings from Keller such as his 2 Gospels and frequent appeal to Roman Catholics and existential philosophers, but what have you found?

Hope to hear back!
